The Vivienne skirt is a homage to Rita Hayworth dancing in the film Gilda. After seeing the film I was inspired to make a skirt that swirled in the same way. So you might ask, why is it called the Vivienne?
The reason is, when I had a market stall in Clapham, Vivienne Westwood browsed my stall and said "If i were to wear any of your designs I would wear this skirt, I absolutely love it. But I have too many clothes so I musn't!" And so the Rita was renamed the Vivienne!
It has an elasticated waist and is lined, it's a complicated piece to make as it has four tiers and has to have just the right sizing of each tier to be able to have the perfect swing.
